INTRODUCTION TO PLAY IS THE WAY THEORY
Play Is The Way® assists Elementary Schools to achieve the core competency capabilities required by the Ministry of Education. Those capabilities, as described in the curriculum, are divided into four inter-related elements of:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Social management
Play Is The Way® is a methodology for social and emotional learning (SEL) consisting of:
- Physically interactive games that embed self-awareness, consideration and cooperation.
- A specific language that develops self-reflection and self-management.
- Five principles that guide personal behaviour and nurture social awareness and management.
The Play Is The Way® process of social and emotional learning (SEL) helps children to, "develop the fundamental skills for life effectiveness." CASEL (Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning)
It teaches the skills, "we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships and our work effectively and ethically." CASEL (Collaborative for Social and Emotional Learning)
Our “Introduction to Play Is the Way Theory” is a 1.5 hour session that outlines Play Is The Way theory and Behavior Education. This snapshot is intended to provide schools with enough information to decide whether or not they want to move forward with whole school PITW training. This snapshot does not permit teachers to use the Play Is The Way Program. Teachers must be trained in PITW before using in the classroom.
The session is presented by a Play Is The Way® licensed practitioner, Leroy Slanzi. The session is filled with insights into Merritt Central Elementary School’s journey through a troubling clientele to one that was regulated and community focused. The session will also outline the massive link between Play Is The Way Theory and the new core competencies.
Please note that workshop bookings are not confirmed until the Workshop Terms and Conditions Agreement and Booking Form is signed and returned to Play Is The Way.ca.
